Diaper for Dignity was born out of a poignant encounter that deeply touched the Geuza Wazo team.

They met a 30-year-old bedridden individual who, due to paralysis from the waist down, had been using newspapers instead of proper diapers. This heart-wrenching situation sparked the inspiration for the Diaper for Dignity project.

In his home, the family would spread a marking tosh on the mattress, cover it with a bedsheet, and place a stack of old newspapers as a makeshift diaper. Because of his paralysis, the man couldn't sense when he had a bowel movement and often remained lying on the soiled newspapers for prolonged periods.

This would result in severe bed sores, which proved difficult to treat and added to the man's already challenging condition. Witnessing his plight and the lack of dignity he experienced drove the team to take action and create the Diaper for Dignity project.

The purpose of Diaper for Dignity is to provide proper, hygienic diapers for individuals with developmental disabilities who face mobility challenges and lack access to suitable care products.
